The Infrastructure Challenge
Biotech firms analyzing genomic sequences or running high-throughput molecular screening generate hundreds of terabytes of raw data daily. This data must move securely from physical laboratory sequencing machines to centralized local storage arrays (NAS) and high-performance computing clusters.
Standard wireless setups or basic copper cabling infrastructures cannot handle these massive, uninterrupted file transfers. Furthermore, strict regulatory mandates require absolute digital isolation between administrative office work, guest access, and proprietary medical research databases.
The Emerald City IT Architecture
Our Certified Fiber Optic Technicians (CFOT) deploy a future-proof, multi-gigabit fiber-optic backbone running vertically through the building's core riser. We install dedicated OM4 multi-mode fiber patching between the main distribution frame (MDF) and intermediate distribution closets (IDFs) on each floor. This delivers an uncompromised 40Gbps throughput capability across the entire facility.
From the floor closets to individual laboratory benches, we pull shielded Category 6A (Cat6A) copper cabling. These runs are structured to eliminate the electromagnetic interference emitted by specialized medical centrifuges and imaging equipment.
To satisfy compliance and security requirements, our engineering team deploys enterprise WatchGuard Firewalls at the edge. We work alongside Revolutionary Technology frameworks to build a network segmented into highly isolated Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs).
- VLAN 10 (Research & Instrumentation): Hardwired-only network. It lacks direct internet access to protect sensitive equipment and data arrays from external probing.
- VLAN 20 (Operations & Corporate): Highly monitored network for day-to-day administrative staff, integrated with ESET Endpoint Protection.
- VLAN 30 (Guest & Vendor Access): A strictly sandboxed wireless network with zero visibility into internal infrastructure.
To ensure uninterrupted uptime during continuous, multi-day sequencing runs, the entire network switch fabric is managed and monitored around the clock. Our technicians utilize secure TeamViewer enterprise nodes to perform real-time latency diagnostics and proactive path management, ensuring the lab’s data pipelines never experience a localized bottleneck.
